Insights From An Insider With Joe Massanova, Director of Business Development

Local and traveling golfers love to research courses before playing them, whether it is to gain some local knowledge or to set an expectation before their upcoming round. Below is an interview with Joe Massanova who shares some valuable insight about the property, its most talked about holes and the signature dish/drink to consume at the 19th hole.

How Does Your Course Differ From The Others In The Area?
The TPC Las Vegas is a PGA TOUR Facility. We are the Home of Professional Golf in Las Vegas and carry with us the highest standards of operation in the golf industry. Guests from all over the world can count on our quality and value as their key to a great golf experience in Las Vegas.

For someone who has not played the course in awhile, has there been any new changes/renovations to the course or property? The TPC Grille has undergone a renovation which has included new carpet, painting, furniture and a completely new bar. A new tee box has been added to hole #12 and it has been lengthened from 148 to 169 yards. Several areas of turf have been transformed back to native desert landscaping on holes 8, 11, 16, 17.

What is your course's answer to Amen Corner? (Describe your best/hardest 3 back/back/back holes)
Located strategically on our back nine, with the best and most scenic views of Red Rock Canyon, holes 12-15 represent Las Vegas Golf at its finest. It is here where our community gets its name as a mini "Canyon" winds through this part of the course, creating a wonderful routing of holes and brilliant forced carries. This stretch starts out on hole 12 with an island green surrounded by desert. Originally playing 148 yards, Hale Irwin once had to hit a 5 iron. Hole 13 is a par four with multiple sets of tee boxes, some of which have the player carrying their tee shot over a large canyon. Others are below the fairway, demanding an uphill tee shot, out of the canyon. Hole 14 is one of our signature holes and while not the longest, it does provide for an exciting blind tee shot to a generous, hidden fairway. Hole 15 is a true 3 shot par 5 with a canyon lining the right side of the fairway. Accuracy off the tee is required as well as an accurate approach shot to a smaller than average green. Good luck, many rounds have been won or lost through this wonderful stretch of holes.

What is your course's claim to fame, or is there a little known fact that golfers should know about the property?
We are the Only public PGA TOUR Facility and the "Home of Professional Golf" in Las Vegas.

* TPC at The Canyons changed its name to TPC Las Vegas on Dec. 10, 2007
* TPC Las Vegas was the second course in Nevada to be certified as an Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary
* The Stadium Mounding behind 18th green is the exact height of the Stratosphere Casino
* TPC Las Vegas course elevation is on average 2,900 feet
* Putts break towards Las Vegas Strip
* Fairways are Bermuda, over seeded with winter Rye, greens are Pennlinks Bent

What tournaments/events have you (recently) hosted or will be hosting?
Over the last decade, TPC Las Vegas has highlighted superb conditioning, a beautiful layout, excellent customer service and the overall "Highest Standards in the Golf industry" as either host or co-host to PGA TOUR and Champions Tour events. TPC Las Vegas served as host of the Champions Tour's Las Vegas Senior Classic from 1997-1999 and the PGA TOUR's Shriner's Hospitals for Children Open from 2001 -2006. Playing at TPC Las Vegas offers golfers the chance to experience the same standards of quality and service that are typically reserved for the pros. Touring professionals that call TPC Las Vegas home include Kevin Na, Bill Lunde, Ryan Moore, Dean Wilson, Bob May, John Reigger, Alex Cejka, Ernie Gonzales, Craig Barlow, Charlie Hoffman and Bob Byman.

Besides golf, what other amenities do you offer if a golfer wants to spend most of the day at your facility?
Arriving early for your round is always a great idea as you can head out to the practice facility to get a feel for the greens and practice your full swing off of our expansive natural grass hitting area. Be sure to keep your eyes open for PGA TOUR professionals amateur champions and high school champions who will likely be practicing right beside you.

The All-American Burger and a "you call it" from a nice selection of micro-brews...including root beer!
